The king compromises (well, not really)

14 Feb

I waited a few days to write about this because I really thought Obama would come up with a waiver for the churches and business who’s conscience would not allow them to pay for abortions and other types of contraceptives.  I find it strange that he didn’t supply waivers like those supplied for some of his unions and large employers that wanted to opt out of government controlled healthcare.

I’m tired of waiting.

Lets take some time to get the time line right. The presidents healthcare plan included violating the first amendment. Put simply he is forcing individuals and business entities to purchase health insurance for their employees that includes contraceptive devices, sterilization surgeries and abortions in direct violation of their beliefs.

The president must have, in part, agreed that this is a violation of the first amendment to the Constitution of the United States because he created a compromise. He stated that the organizations and businesses didn’t have to pay but the insurance companies would have to provide these products and surgeries for free.

Insurance companies do not provide surgeries and products for  free. So, they will have to add it to the bill. I know the president knows this.  Any citizen of these United States knows this, and I am told he is one.

His plan:

All non-waivered employers will pay for insurance policies who will provide abortion and contraceptive products.

His compromise:

All non-waivered employers will pay for insurance policies who will provide abortion and contraceptive products.

Do you see the difference? I don’t either. So, if the first was a violation of the first amendment then why are we supposed to be happy with the compromise? I’m not.

Now the big question. Where is the United States Militia? Someone, who has the power to, is violating a constitutional amendment. (again) Where are the minute men?  I’m ready to sign up and support whoever is fighting for my rights and I know I am not alone on this. We beat back tyranny once in the backwoods of this country, and some are getting ready to do it again.

Missouri Chooses a Candidate

8 Feb

Senator, Rick Santorum took the useless Missouri GOP primary by 55 percent. Maybe many voters went to the poles with the intention of mixing things up a bit since it didn’t really count. Missouri’s candidate will actually be decided by caucus beginning March 17th in each county’s court house. Too many voters cast their vote for Santorum for it to be just the desire to mix it up though.

Governor Mitt Romney came in at a distant second at 25 percent of the vote. It was a defeat that the Romney people must take a seriously.

This is a good example of what happens when there is no large campaign from any candidate. They all knew that Missouri’s primary wasn’t going to result in any electoral votes so why bother.

This primary does tell us something about campaigns and about ourselves.

It has been costly for both of the top runners to constantly beat each other with negative campaigns. Missouri and other states are starting to believe that Romney and Speaker, Newt Gingrich are as bad as the negative campaigns have said they were.

Even after taking Iowa there hasn’t been much negative said about Santorum. Just maybe that could be because there is nothing negative to say. Now that he has four states under his belt maybe the opposition will start looking harder.

He was strong in the Florida debate which, no doubt helped Missourians make up their mind. I saw him live in South Carolina during the debate. I watched him when CNN took commercial breaks. I wish the cameras had been rolling.

During the breaks Santorum would always make a bee line for his wife. They would embrace and she would place her lips to his ear and talk with the intensity of a sideline coach. He never interrupted. She delivered a message that was non stop and took the entire break.

No one heard those messages and I can’t do justice to those moments on this blog, but I gained new respect for the man and for his wife which possibly was giving him the pep talk of both of their lives. Their eyes were closed most of the time while the pep talk continued to give total concentration to the one-sided conversation.

They each smiled during the episode to themselves and then to each other for the final embrace before he headed back to the stage. He always seemed to return with renewed strength and energy with that signature smile.

We have learned in this primary that we are able to vote for a man based on his example and record. Also, we now know who the voters say is the most qualified candidate without the bothersome campaigning. The decision was made without all of those millions of dollars spent to sway us one way or another.

This primary was decided, possibly for the first time ever, in an almost sterile environment. The people chose their champion. This fight is not over.

Sheep!

7 Feb

To participate in Missouri’s primary today truly felt like an exercise in futility, but it made me wonder how and why people vote the way they vote. Some voters educate themselves and vote based on the candidates strengths and how they feel about positions the candidates have taken on the issues. Some voters are uneducated sheep.

You know, those who ask you to endorse a candidate for them. Some sheep ask others which candidate is favored so they are sure they are voting on the winning team. Everyone wants to be a winner. Few voters understand the issues or the candidates. Even fewer understand why we are having a useless primary and a caucus in the state for the same presidential election.

Part of the reason is so the media can report Missouri’s position and choice for the Republican primary. Media tells everyone where the candidates stand and how many votes they received during the primary. That is their job and they do it well. They also have a side effect. They can sway sheep to vote for the top guy.

He may be the top guy for many reasons. The top guy may just have the most money to spend on his campaign. He might also just be the local hero and everyone should vote for the favorite son. The top runner may be morally deficient but had the best come-back retort to the media who asks the embarrassing questions. Putting the main-stream media in its place can get you a great deal of votes.

Could it be, the voting public is tired of big media? No. The frustration comes when media loses its unbiased informing role. If you watch the leading news programs you find a great deal of bias. Do you remember the Republican Primary Debate hosted by CNN in South Carolina?  The audience had to remind Host, John King of CNN to pass questions to Ron Paul. Paul, a practicing gynecologist and obstetrician was ignored during the topic of abortion and healthcare until the audience began yelling “ask Ron.”

Most people will overlook the bias to get the facts about who won which state. Just reporting who won is enough to get some to vote for the top guy. Sheep like voters tend to stay with the herd. I have observed sheep, and it is true that if one does something that gets the notice of the herd they will all follow. They do it even to there own peril.

It’s difficult to watch voters follow the same ignorant sheep pattern.

Uneducated sheep vote for this candidate or that candidate because everyone seems to be voting for them. Sometimes they vote in a primary to select someone who can beat the opponent on the other side of the isle.  This type of voter is easily swayed and usually doesn’t know the issues or the candidates positions.

The presidential election in November is the most important in our lifetime. Everyone agrees that America stands at crossroads of change. The issues have never been more important. The candidates will hopefully give us a clear choice between returning to the conservative ways or evolving into something unknown to most Americans.

What ever you do, don’t be a sheep!
